YIPPEE!!!!! I have finally started harvesting sweetcorn from my veggie patch!! I was worried it would grow too much while away on holiday in Ibiza this past week, but no, the rain this week has helped it grow and it is doing really well! Picked a few ears today - loads more to come - I am in absolute sweetcorn heaven!!! (I even ate a whole ear of corn while harvesting- sooooo tender and sweet!)
The problem with sweetcorn over here in the UK is that everytime I try it - it is just so tough and not very sweet at all. Being brought up in Ohio - we had the most amazing corn on the cob - Ohio is famous for it's corn. (everytime I visit my family, I MUST have sweetcorn on the cob!) You have never had sweetcorn unless you have had it in America - preferably Ohio in my opinion!!!
so. . . . . . . I did a little experiment this year. . . . . .
I acquired some "American" sweetcorn seeds from a reliable source in America - (you know who you are!) Thought I would try to grow some American sweetcorn over here and see what happens. The result is not as good as in America, BUT since we have had such a great summer - mostly dry and sunny (until the past couple of weeks), the result is outstanding and oh so close to that American sweetcorn taste! Soooooo much better than anything I have bought from the store or farmer's markets!
And this is what I have picked from all that has grown while we have been away. Loads more to pick, but can't cook and freeze everything in one day! Love the rain while we were away!!
all about my love for gardening and cooking! (are you hungry?)
I am finally getting my act together to create this page. I am such an unorganised person, sending bits here and there - whether it is on Facebook or Twitter or Flickr to my friends and my family in America. Thought this would be a great way to be able to combine everything I want to share into one page that is easy to navigate (well, that is the idea anyway!) I am a Gemini and we are notorious for never finishing a task, however I will just aim to keep this up-to-date and will take it as it comes! Wish me luck and hope you will follow me on my adventures in the garden & in the kitchen!
~Oh, and my dad used to call me "Sweet Pea".
